  1. Geocentric means the Earth is at the centre.

Heliocentric means the Sun is at the centre.

The ideas are very old. The geocentric system was kept in place due to Ptolemy, and the heliocentric system started to be accepted due to the works of Copernicus. But the words are way older than these two men.

  2. Yeah, geocentric was accepted back then. But the first person who actually thought about heliocentric model was Aristarchus when he used some simple but correct geometry to compare the size of the sun and earth. He found out that the sun is way bigger than the earth and he thought logically, a larger massive body wouldn't be orbiting around a smaller one.

But its not accepted because people at that time still believed in the geocentric model. Then came Copernicus, and then Kepler. Kepler found out that the orbits are ellipse.

  3. Geocentric Theory:

Heraclides (330 B.C.) developed the first Solar System model, beginning of the geocentric versus heliocentric debate

    Heliocentric theory

Aristarchus (270 B.C.) developed the heliocentric theory
