Geoff Allott – the first casualty of Bangladesh debacle
Geoff Allott, New Zealand Cricket’s general manager, has resigned from his role in the wake of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Bangladesh-c747 debacle and will leave the national body at the end of this month. Allott said that he was at odds with the incumbent high performance structure.
Allott, who had joined the New Zealand Cricket as general manger in 2008, said his focus during his 2-year tenure had been the development of a long-term high-performance strategy. But he said that during the review of Bangladesh tour it had become evident
to him that http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Cricket might need a different resource allocation in different areas of high-performance.
The former Test pacer of New Zealand had joined NZC in 2008 as part of a restructure of the national body but now he feels New Zealand cricket needs a new combination of technical experts for a prosperous future in the game.
“I believe our elite athletes and teams need a combination of the best available high performance expertise and the knowledge of cricket experts who understand the technical aspects of the game (and) on that basis the high performance structure that I consider
is best for cricket's future would be different to the current structure, and with a different allocation of resources”.
New Zealand in its recent tour to Bangladesh faced an unprecedented 4-0 series loss. The former Test bowler said that the leaving the NZC general manager post was a difficult decision for him as he is passionate about the game that has given him so much.
"I have effectively restructured myself out of a job, but I truly believe this to be in the best interests of cricket", added Geoff Allott.
The departing general manager of New Zealand cricket said that he wants to enjoy some time with his family away from cricket but he did opine that after a break he will make a comeback by considering opportunities both inside and outside the game.
The chief executive NZC, Justin Vaughan, praised Allott's efforts in fulfilling his managerial responsibilities and his altruism in deciding to step down.
"Geoff has made an enormous contribution to cricket in New Zealand", said Vaughan. "He was instrumental in the negotiation of the ground-breaking eight-year agreement with the Players Association and has led the development of the high performance strategy
with the unique insights that a former international cricketer can bring to the process".
