Geoff Huegill does not want to waste his time – Swimming News
The 2010 Commonwealth games champion, Geoff Huegill, has claimed that time is the essence for him to put on a show and secure best results in the upcoming World Championships campaign in Shanghai, later this year.
Huegill said, “I don't want to waste my time, NSWIS's time and, most importantly, I don't want to waste the Australian public's time putting a plan into place and cutting corners to get there. My old coach used to say, if you cut too many corners you go around in circles.”
The Australian plans to follow a very strict diet and exercise schedule than before, to get in better shape for the event. He added, “I know it's the last roll of the dice for me. I know I'm getting older, I know it takes longer for me to recover and I know I have to pay extra attention to the things I do every day.”
He claimed that people might see another James Magnussen, James Roberts and Ryan Napoleon in the next year. He has got a whole heap of young swimmers on his end now and the Australian knows that this chance will be his last roll of the dice. He indeed has not been this focused and motivated, since he was leading into the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
Huegill further claimed that his hunger, passion and dedication to the sport have not been eliminated yet. Considering the fact that this is his last chance to compete at the Olympic Games in London, he is not going to leave any pebble unturned.
The butterfly specialist was given the good news, when he was told that he has just got the relaxation from Swimming Australia, to vie in the 2011 FINA World Championships.
One thing that Huegill is missing under his belt is an Olympic gold medal. This will be the last opportunity for the swimmer to win his first podium spot, at the highest level of the sport.
He has won one silver and one bronze medal in the Men’s 4x100m medley and the 100m butterfly events in the 2000 Sydney Olympic Games.
