Geoff Huegill pays close attention on his next Olympic goal – Swimming News
Legendary Australian swimmer, Geoff Huegill had said that he is putting emphasis on his next Olympic goal these days.
He deems that only 428 days are left for the commencement of the London Olympic Games and considers all athletes whose ultimate target is London, to start preparing with full effort for the games.
Huegill said, “Now that I'm aware of what limited time there is … that means there's about 300 days until the trials, and by the time you take your Sundays out, your half-day Wednesdays and Saturdays, there's two days gone and quite rapidly those 300 days
turn into 200 days of exercise.”
The swimmer admitted that time is passing by very quickly. He added that with every training session, each athlete has to put in the best of his individual ability, to get better at the game.
While speaking about the importance of understanding the ultimate goal, he said, “Having that stake in the ground, knowing exactly what you're chasing, makes getting out of bed every day a h**l of a lot easier.”
The Australian knows this is the last chance for him to make a final impression at the big stage, as he is getting older. Huegill asserted that he does not want to waste his time and continue working hard to put up a good show in the event. He added that
he has still enough dedication and motivation towards the sport.
The butterfly swimmer is confident that he will put up a good show at the world championships to be held in Shanghai, this July. He added that he has the adequate speed, stamina and fitness to achieve best results for his country, in China.
Huegill is a world-class performer and has been the world champion for six times from 1997-2002. He nabbed seven gold medals in the Commonwealth Games during the period of 1998-2010.
He has not claimed the Olympic gold up to now and the London event in 2012 will be his last endeavour to fight for his first podium spot in his career, at the highest level of the sport.
