Geoff Marsh To Coach Prune

Geoff Marsh, retired Australian cricketer, selector and coach, has agreed to coach the Sahara Pune Warriors of the Indian Premier League, after the club joins the competition next season. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754’s Twenty20 Champions, Central District.

Geoff was an opening batsman for his country, playing over 50 Test matches and over a 100 One Day Internationals. He made his debut when he was only nineteen years old in the 1977-1978 season of the Sheffield Shield. He experimented with other sports, playing in the West Australian Football League for a few years but returned to cricket, his true passion. He impressed the selectors and made his debut in Test cricket against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 in 1985. He remained an important part of the team until his retirement in 1992, having played international cricket for seven years.

Two years after his retirement, in 1996 Marsh was chosen as one of the coaches for the Australian national Test and one day International teams. His involvement was important in further establishing his country’s claim as being a top cricketing nation, with his assistance Australia won seven consecutive matches to finally beat England in the final and claim the 1999 World Cup. He left coaching and became a selector for the Australian team, and shortly afterwards he was appointed coach for the Zimbabwean national team. They had an impressive run under him but he quit in 2004 and then in 2009, was appointed coach of the Fremantle District Cricket Club, the same club he had played for during his senior playing career. Marsh’s two sons, Shaun and Mitchell both play in the Indian Premier League. 26 year old Shaun plays for the Kings XI http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Punjab-c833 and Mitchell who is 18 years old, made his debut for the Deccan Chargers earlier this season.

Following his appointment, Marsh said how he wanted to make a team out of players from different countries, “The team winning [the] IPL have done this very well,” he told reporters. “They played as a team and gel together. That's the role of a coach and we will be working on that.” The club has no players as yet and any decisions taken by Marsh and the coaching team will only come into play after the Indian Premier League’s governing body has given its approval.

Sahara chairman, Subrata Roy said in an official statement, “We feel that the two new teams should get a [level] playing field. The rules said that each team can retain maximum four players. We want that there should be an open auction so teams are balanced. Teams should be more competitive and hope that we will get a chance to select from all the available players from the country and abroad.” He believed that the introduction of new teams and foreign players would make the competition more interesting and attract more viewers.
