National selector http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 at The Oval, and urged the side to learn from their mistakes in the previous game and make a strong comeback in the second
Test at Headingley.
“We were outplayed during the first Test last week but it is important that this squad regroups and focuses on preparing for the second Test,” said Miller while addressing a press conference on Sunday.
The hosts were totally outclassed in the opening Test at The Oval, which they lost to http://www.senore.com/Cricket/GC-Smith-c1473 and men with a huge margin of an innings and 12 runs. However, Miller has his hopes attached with the Andrew Strauss-led ‘talented’ squad to square the series
with a win at Headingley.
“This is a talented squad with plenty of international experience and they will be determined to improve on the performance during the first Test,” said the national selector.
A series defeat would deprive England of the World No. 1 Test status, which they had clinched last summer by inflicting a 4-0 series whitewash on the then best Test side, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
Miller said that Strauss’ men have played a lot of good cricket over the last few years and have the potential to secure their top Test ranking by playing well in the remainder of the two Tests of the series.
"We have played a lot of good cricket over the last few years and it's important we remember that, learn from the mistakes that we made and retain the belief that we can level this series at Headingley," http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Miller-c76318 added further.
The second Test gets underway at Leeds, Headingley, on Thursday, August 2, while the third and final Test will be played at historic Lord’s ground, between August 16 and 20.
Meanwhile, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Taylor-c92915 has replaced all-rounder Ravi
Bopara in the squad.
Bopara, who last week returned to the Test line-up after a gap of almost one year, was “unavailable for selection due to personal reasons”, said Miller.
