Geoff Miller would welcome an unconditional return by Pietersen - Cricket News Update
English selector, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Miller-c58870, has welcomed the possibility of Kevin Pietersen making a return to the international cricket after the latter had earlier announced his departure from the limited-over formats of the game.
In June, Pietersen had surprised the cricketing world with his premature retirement to focus on his Test career and IPL - a decision, which he went on to rue later after the English Cricket Board (ECB) denied him to represent the Poms in the T20 internationals
as well.
The ECB’s contracts makes it mandatory for every player to play in both shorter formats of the game with a strict condition to bar anyone from playing both ODIs and T20Is, if someone decides to retire from any one of the two limited versions.
While the English batsman only wanted to retire from the ODIs, his decision meant that the he would not be able to represent his country in the T20Is as well.
The 32-year-old is eyeing his return to the shorter format of the game to participate in the next month’s http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758, where England will be the defending champions.
Pietersen had revealed his intention to be back in the English blues after scoring an impressive unbeaten 234* in a county match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806. The England star batsman said that he still has a few years to play in all forms of the game.
But the right-handed batsman hinted at a conditional return in order to make time for his family and avoid the physical demands of the game afflicting his body, “the schedule is a nightmare. I hope something can be sorted out," the batsman said.
"Kevin is always welcome in the England side, he is a quality, talented international cricketer and you want your best players representing you," Miller said while speaking to BBC.
However, the English selector has said that the former http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 captain would have to be prepared to meet the Board’s demands and to shed any conditions he has on his mind.
"We can't just look at the World Cup, we have to look further ahead and make sure we can plan and manage players' workloads, but he has to make himself available for how England want him to perform for us."
Hoping the batsman would reconsider his decision, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Miller-c76318 thinks the right-hander batsman could sort out the matter with the English board.
"The discussions are not to do with me and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KP-Pietersen-c1806. Those discussions are between the ECB and the players [and] are private."
