Geoff Ogilvy contention still strong at Australian PGA Championship
Geoff Ogilvy is still in contention for a slice of the cake with the cherry bit on it. However, given the fairytale Geoff Ogilvy is fantasizing – and living, mind you – he will just have to turn up the heat.
Otherwise, he will not be living any “happily ever after” for his career. Well at least not in the waning twilight of this season that is for sure.
Not when he is out chasing after his dream of participating in the US Masters coming up next season. Up the ante, Ogilvy. The Masters come to those who drive far, and to those who make the top-50.
''I don't know if it has to be first to get into the top 50, but it probably has to be first two or three,'' Ogilvy said.
''I don't study world rankings that much. But that would be a bonus, winning the tournament would be the best part but if that was a side bonus that would be good''.
The 35-year-old Ogilvy has been an inspiration for leader Daniel Popovic, who said watching the old veteran play has improved his game considerably.
Ogilvy’s round two has lost that bit of nerve he showed in the first, despite beginning the latter with a beautiful birdie.
''I feel like I am in a good place,'' Ogilvy said. ''It's nice I will be in one of the last few groups and if I can have a good score, maybe get right up there after tomorrow and give it a crack on Sunday''.
There are others on the field who hope to make this Coolum the best one they are going to have. The reason being, there will not be another in the foreseeable future.
There is Steven Bowditch, who is tied at no. 5 with Mathew Goggin. Bowditch called the Qualifying School the most challenging and demanding golf there is.
He said he started with a poor show and then, as the day went along, his situation did not improve much either.
Nevertheless, he did admit to learning a great deal more about golf this round, especially the back nine.
This round really put him under pressure, he said, perhaps more than he has ever had in the past before. Pressure cookers make for better golf.
