Geoff Willis claims Hispania Racing Team need more resources – Formula 1 news
Hispania Racing Team’s technical director Geoff Willis has recently admitted that the team needs some more resources in order to improve its performance and break its habit of finishing at the tail end of the field at almost every race.
At first before the beginning of the 2011 Formula 1 season, it seemed that the team might not be able to compete in Formula 1 anymore since they were going through some major financial issues.
“We have to improve pretty much everywhere. I do not mean to sound negative. The simple fact is that we need more resources. For example, in our aerodynamic programme, we simply need more people. In production we need better quality control and tests. You
just cannot afford to be a little bit weak in those areas,” Willis told the media.
He added that the team is trying its best to improve its car and build a new competitive car for the 2012 Formula 1 season at the same time as well in order to secure a better position before the beginning of the upcoming season.
Securing a good car would also help the team in improving its overall performance and probably making its way up the Formula 1 grid in terms of constructors’ positions.
Other than that, he stated that his own personal future is not certain yet as his current situation and HRT’s place in the sport is not as simple as it seems.
“That cannot be answered simply. Currently I am an important part of this project and no one wants to leave until we get there,” he said.
Nevertheless, the three new teams have been struggling to perform since their respective debuts in 2010 as neither of them has secured a single point and they have not been able to match the pace of the mid-running teams of the sport.
However, Team Lotus have been improving and they have been able to qualify into the Q2 session during the qualifying round at some of the race weekends in the 2011 Formula 1 season ahead of Williams.
