Boycott termed Sangakkara as a “brave man” to have come out and said all that he did at the MCC Spirit of Cricket-Cowdrey lecture; knowing quiet well, that such statements would get him in trouble with the cricket authorities in Sri Lanka.
“He is a brave man and in a way right because there have been interference by political bodies in cricket boards before,” said the 70-year-old Boycott.
He insisted that perhaps time had come for the International Cricket Council (ICC) to take lead from football’s governing body FIFA, which makes it mandatory for member associations to be free from political intervention.
