http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Boycott-c58776 expects spin to play a big factory in T20 World Cup - Cricket News Update
Former England captain and batting great, Geoffrey Boycott, considers the Asian nations to perform well at the upcoming http://www.senore.com/Cricket/ICC-World-Cup-2011-c100625 World T20 Cup, owing their ability to take better advantage of the slow turning tracks of the subcontinent.
Boycott predicts spinners to take centre-stage in the competition, which may not bode very well for the Poms, who have struggled against quality spin bowling in Asian conditions.
“Spin will play a big factor in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013,” he said in an interview to Pakpassion.com.
Despite performing poorly in the Test arena earlier in the year, the English contingent has fared well in the shorter format of the game, including a T20I series win against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 at UAE. They also defeated India in a lone T20I last year, after being
thrashed 5-0 nil in the ODI arena.
Boycott however, still feels that the sub-continent teams hold edge over their opponents as they are traditionally good at playing spin, and generally perform well in familiar conditions. Nonetheless, the 70-year-old feels that a clear winner is hard to
pick due to the unpredictable nature of the T20 format, and expects the tournament to offer a few surprises.
“Pakistan should do well at the World Cup as should http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750 and the hosts, although the Sri Lankan bowling is not all that special, but the people who are used to playing on slower pitches will have an advantage to start with.”
“Playing Twenty20 cricket is hit and giggle, its baseball with cricket rules and there is a lot of luck involved. The shorter the format gets, the more difficult it is to pick a winner,” the former skipper further added.
England will be defending their title after winning the 2010 edition of the competition in the Caribbean. The fourth edition of the T20 mega-event is scheduled to start from September 18 and will last till October 7. This will be for the first time that
an Asian nation would host the competition.
The tournament will feature 16 teams, divided in four groups, with the first match scheduled to be played between
Sri Lanka v http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Zimbabwe-c3045 at Hambantota.
