Geoffrey Boycott foresees South Africa tour a tough outing for Sri Lanka – Cricket News Update
Former England cricketer, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758’s biggest weak point when they take on South Africa in the upcoming three-match Test series.
Sri Lanka’s trip to South Africa has begun with the ongoing warm-up game against South African Invitation XI, but the real clash will commence with the opening Test at Centurion on December 15, 2011.
After losing the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Pakistan-c755 series badly, Tillakaratne Dilshan’s captaincy is also at stake, but nothing seems to be going in the favour of the islanders. The Sri Lankans failed to make an impression with the ball in the tour game, letting the Proteas reach
357 in the first innings.
Their recent records in the longest version of the game are not impressive by any means, as they are yet to register their first Test triumph in this calendar year.
The omission of two wicket-taking bowlers coupled with recent poor run prompted Boycott to rate http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757 as the favourite side in the forthcoming clash. He argued that the nonappearance of Murali and Malinga means that the home side will cash in the
opportunity and hammer the tourist bowlers.
"I said months ago: without Murali (http://www.senore.com/Cricket/M-Muralitharan-c1864) and (Lasith) Malinga - they were two wicket-taking bowlers - Sri Lankan cricket will struggle. Bowlers win Test matches; wicket-taking bowlers. They were two of the best," Sport24 quoted Boycott,
as saying.
The cricketer-turned-commentator, however, expressed sympathy for the Lankan players over the controversy of their unpaid salaries. Boycott elucidated that the players should be motivated in order to extract the best out of them and therefore, Sri Lanka
Cricket (SCL) must resolve the payment issue as soon as possible.
"The best way to create a good atmosphere, or a working environment, is to pay the players. Every penny they are owed, get them paid. If Sri Lankan cricket wants to move forward, positively, and in harmony with the players, then you've got to make sure players
are paid. on the dot," added the 71-year-old who represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 from 1964 to 1982.
