Yorkshire’s new president, Geoffrey Boycott, was keen to express his views on the under fire leg-spinner, Adil Rashid, claiming that axing of the player was anticipated, considering his poor performances during the current County Championship season.
The 24-year-old was dropped for the first time during his six-year career with the English county, following a string of disappointing showings in Division 2, where he claimed just 9 wickets in the first six games, while scoring 92 runs with the bat.
He had been the front line spinner since bursting on to the scene with a matching wining performance against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warwickshire-c862 in 2006, bagging a total of six wickets on debut. He blossomed the following seasons, with both bat and ball, and was named as Cricket
Writers’ Club young Cricketer of the Year for 2007, while in 2008 bagged his best tally in terms of wickets, 62 – earning him an unlikely English call-up.
However, his stacks have fallen since and he came under considerable scrutiny in 2010 before finally being omitted for the first time in preference of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nottinghamshire-c826.
While the art of leg spin remains rare in the current cricketing scenario, Rashid’s fall from grace was highly unwanted but Boycott believes that it is the player who is at fault.
"He's never progressed, that's the sad part," Boycott said, speaking. "I think there are a lot of people in English cricket who wanted to have a legspinner playing for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 but it's not about the type of bowling, it's the quality of bowling.
"I don't think he has been mis-managed," Boycott asserted. "It's easy to blame other people isn't it? You can always say, you didn't pick me enough or it's the coaches fault or you picked me too soon for England. You can throw out all the things you want,
but in the end, it's up to you.”
Rashid’s career graph reads a total of 95 matches, where he has picked 289 wickets at 34.19. For now, the player is expected to feature for Yorkshire’s second string team, and watch Rafiq make a mark, the player’s first county appearance since 2010.
