  1. Since they are both in Italy there are no disadvantages!

  2. Travelwise or just geographical?

Florence is in a depression, surrounded by hills and this makes it very cold in winter and very hot in the summer. The Arno river, which flows through it, flooded in the past, creating huge problems and destroying many valuable works of art.

Venice is built on water (and small islands), with all the problems related to having buildings with their basements under water. This had the advantage of making Venice very difficult to reach, protecting the city from military attacks.

If you are travelling, they are both quite distant from the main international airports, and you have to reach them through non-direct flights or other means of transportation.

  3. I personally think Florence is better travel wise.  It has more things to do too!  I think you'll get bored of Venice after 5 days!  Also, I found that it's so much more expensive to stay in Venice.  The restaurants, hostels/hotels and activities are much more expensive.

Florence is closer to a lot of sites that you'll want to visit, so you'll definitely save money by staying here.  Whereas, Venice, it's a little more expensive to travel to and from.

Also, I found that you'll have more fun in Florence than Venice.  There are more clubs, shopping places, restaurants, museums etc.

    My vote is definitely FIRENZE!
