Geography homework (need answer like now)?

The question is "how are computers used in map making", I dont want someone to come on here with some snotty answer and say "do your own homework!" well I tried to but I can't seem to find the answer so...

it helps you with longitude and latitude?  the distance (i.e scales)? i'm not quite sure.
