Geography of France, most Northerly and Southerly towns?

The most northerly DEPARTMENT is "NORD" is this an area or just a description as the french of North is nord. is department the correct term?

What is the most southerly town and what area is it in?

  1. if you really get to it , france also comprises departement d outre mer which are same as mainland france , to which some overseas teritories are added:

    in which case , most southern city for france would probably be noumea in new caledonia or a city off kerguelen islands , and most northern probably st pierre in st pierre et miquelon off coast of canada.


  2. North of France is the name of an area that is a collapse of two departement : Nord (departement N°59, the northerly) and Nord Pas de Calais (departement N°62, just under the 59).

    The most southerly town ... Ajaccio in Corsica ^^

    Perpignan i guess.

    PS : the most northerly city is Lille. 15 min far from Belgium.

  3. I prefere the north (normandy, britany, north, alsace, lorraine, bourgogne, paris....) people is more simply and authentic.

    In the south I only like basque and catalan countries but absolutly not the south-east (only problems and violence there)
