  1. Tiltmeters (and very accurate line surveys) are used to detect the bulging of the surface as magma fills a magma chamber. Along with geochemical analysis if there are fumartoles, and microgravity surveys these methods are used to predict potential volcanic eruptions.

    High resolution satalite altimetry does a pretty similar job too
