  1. Let x be the acute angle

    by definition of acute, x < 90

    The complement, defined as c = 90-x (so that x+c = 90)

    The supplement, defined as s = 180-x (so that x+s = 180)

Now how could we show the proposition that x's complement is greater than its supplement?

Well, we could ASSUME that the the proposition is TRUE, and if it is true then

    c-s > 0; let us see:

    c-s = (90-x) - (180-x) = -90 which is < 0, therefore the proposition is FALSE and the above is Why

This stuff was always hard for me; hope that this helps
