Suppose m is between l & n.

LM=1/2z+2

MN=3z+3/2

LN=5z+2

  1. This is an algebra problem, thinly disguised as a geometry problem.  If M is between L and N (by the way - capitals indicate points, lower case indicates lines.  It makes a difference), then you know that

    LM + MN = LN

    So,

    (1/2)z + 2 + 3z + (3/2) = 5z + 2
