Ok.......these problems use the quadratic formula. The problem is

m(squared)=11m. I'm supposed to make into something like 11-m and equal zero. But ?I'm not sure how to do that:( am I supposed to add or subtract? I can do the quadratic part but this part is so confusing.....PUH-LEEZE help!!!!! It's due tomorrow!

  1. m^2 = 11m

    m^2 - 11m = 0.

You can't add anything to or subtract anything from this equation in order to get m - 11 = 0.  What you can do, however, is divide both sides by m, as long as m is not zero.  m = 0 is one solution to the equation m^2 = 11m, and to find other solutions we assume that m no longer equals 0.  Then, dividing both sides by m gives us:

    (m^2 - 11m)/m = 0/m

    m - 11 = 0,

which is exactly what you need.  Note that this equation implies that m = 11 is the other solution to the initial quadratic equation m^2 = 11m.
