In the figure below, EC bisects AD at C, and EF bisects AC at B. For each of the following, find the value of x and the measure of the indicated segment.

AB=3x+6, BC=2x+14 ; AC

  1. If EF bisects AC at B, that means that AB = BC.

    So 3x + 6 = 2x + 14.  That is the equation to solve.

    Then use the x that you find to get AC because

    AC = AB + BC or

    AC = 3x + 6 + 2x + 14
