Acting ODI captain, George Bailey, has defended the inexperience currently floating in Australian limited-overs squad by claiming that all new comers have earned the right to replace legends in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MEK-Hussey-c1942.
Bailey’s own career may be 13 matches old but he is certainly in the limelight after being named as the team’s leader in the absence of the rested http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558 out due to injury, and the elder Hussey failing to get his farewell wishes,
it has considerably weakened the Australian outfit, which are also without the services of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/India-c750.
The return of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DJ-Hussey-c1380 ensures that the Kangaroos are not entirely banking on the new comers to deliver the goods.
As the team assembled to take on http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the first ODI, Bailey was asked the inevitable question of captaining a second-string side. However, the Tasmanian’s leadership is well admired by the Aussie hierarchy and he confidently downplayed any such suggestions.
"It's still the Australian cricket team, isn't it?" Bailey said. "I'm sure Sri Lanka won't be taking it as the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 B-team."
He further heaped praise on the likes of http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Aaron-Finch-c881, all of whom are likely to take hold of the opening three positions in the team. While the former two are more seen as Test specialist, Finch’s elevation has come a result
of solid performances in the ongoing Big Bash League, where he represents and captains, table-toppers Melbourne Renegades.
"Certainly all three have all earned their place - their domestic cricket record is outstanding," Bailey said. "A couple of Twenty20 games that Finchy has played [for Australia], he's played really well and was man of the match in one of those. Their domestic
form has been really strong and they all have outstanding games for international cricket, Ussie and Hughesy in all forms."
Bailey also backed them to replace Ponting and Hussey for the longer term as the Aussies prepare for the World Cup 2015.
