George Bailey to make ODI debut against Windies – Cricket News Update
Tasmanian batsman http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Bailey-c1480 will be debuting for Australia in the first ODI of the 5-match series against West Indies, which is scheduled to be played today, on March 16, 2012.
Bailey comes in to replace off-spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Sri-Lanka-c758 in the last final of the Commonwealth Bank series last month in Adelaide.
“It's been a great couple of weeks,” the opening batsman said. “Firstly to have been with the squad for the third final which was a great game of cricket and now it's nice to make your debut in the first game of the series over here.”
The 29-year-old made his International debut as Australia’s T20I captain earlier this year against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in Sydney. He also balanced national duties with his domestic cricket
responsibilities, serving as captain for the Tasmanian Tigers, and scoring a valiant 101 in the Ryobi Cup final against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Australia-c844 which, nevertheless, was not enough to lead his team to victory.
The conditions in the Caribbean region have been among the main talking points for Australia’s tour of the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/West-Indies-c760. The squad includes several players in addition to Bailey, who have yet to gain exposure to Caribbean conditions in Friday's match, among
them spinner http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Daniel-Christian-c1308.
“I'm not the only one to tour the Caribbean for the first time, there's been a few of us and it's obviously generated some good discussion of the conditions we're going to have,” Bailey said, adding that they were going to be “very different to what we've
had in Australia for the whole summer.”
With hot, humid weather, and a low, slow pitch awaiting the team at the Arnos Vale Ground, in Kingstown, the Aussies are expected to be out of their depth, and the Tasmanian opener expects the host team to have a considerable upper-hand.
“There'll be some challenges there and I think the West Indies have played well in their own conditions the last couple of series,” the right-hander observed.
