George Bennett joined RadioShack-Nissan-Trek for 2012
Team RadioShack-Nissan-Trek has further strengthened its squad as George Bennett signed up with the team for the coming season. The cyclist was already riding with the team as a trainee, as he participated at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and the Tour of
Utah.
Team RadioShack-Nissan-Teak has emerged as one of the strongest teams for the 2012 season since the merger.  It took on board the top riders in the sport, including Andy Schleck, Frank Schleck, Fabian Cancellara, Chris Horner and many other cycling stars.
Bennett considers himself lucky to be part of such a strong line-up as he will learn tremendously from the experienced players in the squad.
He will not only ride in a World Tour team but also one of the best teams available in the competition.
He said, “I never really set time-specific goals, but I suppose I'd expected to be with Livestrong for two years. 21 is young to be there, but I won't be the first 21-year-old to ride in the WorldTour. I'm happy [to be joining RadioShack], I'm really proud
of it, it's hard to take it all in. Now I just have to step up [my level], getting a contract is only the first step of being a professional".
George mentioned during an interview that he never expected to become part of a World Tour team as early as in 2012. He surely has earned his spot in the team with the impressive performance throughout his career.
Bennett’s best performance in the 2011 season was at Ronde de Ronde de l'Isard. He was riding for Trek-Livestrong Team and finished with an impressive second position at the event. George secured the 5th position at the event in 2010.
The cyclist’s 2011 performances also include the 1st General Classification finish at the Tour of Wellington and the second place finish at the NZ MTB Cup.
Bennett also secured the 3rd position at the Tour de Vineyards and won the mountains classifications at the 2011 edition of the race.
It will be interesting to see how Bennett fits in the strong RadioShack-Nissan-Trek squad in the coming season, as he will face tough competition from within his team. His previous performances clearly show that he can perform well and make a permanent place
in the team’s roster.
