George Bennett looking ahead at USA Pro Cycling challenge to impress Radio Shack – Cycling News
George Bennett has been trying really hard in the past few months to make the full use of opportunity given to him by team Radio Shack. He has been with the team for past 12 months and has really enjoyed the time with team as he won the Tour of Wellington
in January 2011 followed by a second place overall in the Ronde de I’ Island.
The New Zealander showed his support to the Tour of Utah winner Levi Leipheimer and helped him secure the yellow jersey. His performance at the Tour showed his real strengths as he came up as a better competitor in the tougher situation. Bennett commented
after the Tour of Utah, “I was really happy with how I rode how I was able to help Levi with the win. Everyone at the team pushed me, and that helped me hang on when things got a bit tougher.”
Bennett is looking forward for USA Pro Cycling Challenge held in Colorado between August 22 to August 28 and will be looking ahead to support Radio Shack’s leader Levi Leipheimer.
The 21-year-old is trying hard to make his position in the squad and is aiming to secure a contract after the end of this year as he stated that he struggled in the beginning at Redlands and Gila as the tracks favours someone with more physical strength.
He mentioned that he is talking to other teams but team Radio Shack will be his first option as he is more familiar with the team and moreover he has spent really good time with the team as he mentioned, “Nothing’s been announced yet, Livestrong’s been really
really good. It’s been an awesome year with them.”
Bennett was used to racing the European style and a gap of months between the events as per the US race calendars really made it difficult for him to adjust in the beginning as he mentioned, “I’d finish one race and have a pretty long time until the next
one. It made it a lot harder to string together any sort of momentum.”
George is really looking forward get a contract from Radio Shack but is only waiting till it’s done as nothing has been announced by the American team as yet.
