George Bennett looking ahead at the Canadian World Tour events
George Bennett is enjoying his debut season at the World Tour level with Team RadioShack-Nissan after gaining much experience at the amateur level.
The cyclist could not really perform up to his calibre in the 2012 season and has mostly been surrounded by injuries and illness. However, the young Kiwi rider has shown great character by helping his team to the best of his abilities.
The 22-year-old rode with the amateur side, Team Trek-Livestrong and Team RadioShack (stagiaire) before coming to the international scene.
Bennett was recently seen in action at the USA Pro Cycling Challenge and the Tour of Utah where he managed to secure the 25th and the 14th spot, in the respective order.
After completing the 45 days of cycling across the calendar, he is now eyeing the Canadian World Tour events, Grand Prix Cycliste de Montreal and Grand Prix Cycliste Quebec.
It would be his first WorldTour one-day race and George is really looking forward to make an impression for the coming races.
“I haven’t done a single one-day race this year, this will be my first WorldTour one-day race. I’m really looking forward to it because I have a lot of one-day races lined up for the rest of the year”.
"I’m a tour rider for sure but it’s going to be nice to just have one day where I have to go full gas and then put my feet up and not have to worry about the day after”.
"I watched both of them last year and I thought they look like really good races,” he concluded.
Bennett was mostly seen in action at the stage races including the Tour de Romandie, the Tour of California, Vuelta a Castilla y Leon, the Tour of Austria but the cyclist still has enough love for the one-day races.
He believes that participating at the one-day events will definitely groom him for the stage events in the season ahead.
Team RadioShack-Nissan had a disastrous season and its performance was nowhere near considering the top riders in its squad.
Gp de Quebec and Gp de Montreal are scheduled on September 7th and 9th respectively and the winner of each race will be awarded with 80 UCI points.
