George Bovell acquires Men’s 100m IM gold – FINA Swimming World Cup, Tokyo
George Bovell acquired gold medal of the Men’s 100m Individual Medley (IM) on day one of the seventh stop of the 2012 FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup Series in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday, November 6.
Bovell devastated hopes of his opponents in the shortest IM discipline and managed to outsmart his toughest challenger, Kenneth To of Australia over the finishing blockade for the title.
He faced tough contest from To throughout the race but managed to edge him out over the wall for the title with a timing of 51.80 seconds.
The gold medallist was followed by To, who stayed 0.03 seconds slower and surfaced on the finishing wall for silver medal by submitting an effort of 51.83 seconds.
The Australian swimmer was followed by Kyle Richardson of Australia, who stayed only 0.30 seconds slower from his preceding swimmer and cruised his way towards the finishing blockade for bronze medal by touching the wall with the timing of 53.13 seconds.
Richardson was traced by Takurou Fujii of Japan, who was 0.11 seconds away from upsetting his former finisher and surfaced on the wall with a timing of 53.24 seconds for fourth spot.
The Japanese swimmer was trailed by Hiromasa Fujimori of Japan, who remained only 0.43 seconds behind and transpired on the finishing blockade as fifth position holder by clocking a time of 53.67 seconds.
Sixth spot of the race was obtained by Kazuki Nagura of Japan, who was 0.07 seconds slower and emerged on the finishing blockade with the timing of 54.74 seconds.
Nagura was traced by Tatsuya Itou of Japan, who stayed 0.14 seconds behind and completed his race in seventh place by touching the wall with an effort of 54.88 seconds.
Itou was chased by Takashi Iyobe of Japan, who struggled hard to improve his position in the playoff but failed to do so. Iyobe remained 0.03 seconds slower from Itou and ended his race in eighth place by producing a time of 54.91 seconds.
In addition, Bovell was contented with his title claiming effort and said that he would try to achieve the same in forthcoming swimming competitions.
