George Bovell earns Men’s 100m IM gold – FINA/Arena Swimming World Cup
George Bovell earned gold medal of the Men’s 100m Individual Medley (IM) on initial day of the 2012 FINA/ARENA Swimming World Cup in Stockholm, Sweden on Saturday, October 13.
Bovell spoiled the party of his challengers in the short course IM discipline as he sprinted his way towards the finishing end for the crown.
With his unrelenting efforts, he stayed marginally ahead of his toughest competitor and proved his mettle for the title. Bovell stayed in a lead of one arm-stroke over his closest rival and pocketed gold medal of the event by producing a time of 51.56 seconds.
His gold claiming effort remained 0.19 seconds faster from Kenneth To of Australia, who followed him on the medal rostrum for silver medal by producing a time of 51.75 seconds.
The second position holder was followed by Kyle Richardson of Australia, who stayed 1.03 seconds away from overpowering his former finisher and emerged on the finishing blockade for bronze medal with a timing of 52.78 seconds.
Fourth fastest spot of the event was secured by Darian Townsend of South Africa, who was 0.26 seconds apart and settled on the wall with the timing of 53.04 seconds.
Townsend was chased by Simon Sjodin of Sweden, who remained 0.30 seconds slower and transpired on the finishing end with an effort of 53.34 seconds for fifth position.
Subsequently, Sjodin was followed by Henrique Rodrigues of Brazil, who was marginally slower from his preceding swimmer and clocked a time of 53.39 seconds for sixth position.
Rodrigues was traced by Tommaso D’Orsogna of Australia, who was 0.10 seconds slower from upsetting his former finisher and made his way to the wall with an effort of 53.49 seconds.
Last spot of the race was secured by Yuki Shirai of Japan, who tried hard to improve his position but failed to do so. Shirai stayed 1.43 seconds behind and surfaced on the wall with an effort of 54.92 seconds.
In addition, Bovell was extremely pleased with his undisputed form in the IM discipline and articulated that he would try hard to accomplish the same at upcoming swimming competitions.
