I take George Brett simply because he came through in the playoffs... what about you?

  1. I agree.  Chipper Jones is likely a Hall of Famer, but with George Brett there was absolutely not discussion.  Brett was so clutch and was a much better average hitter, winning three batting titles.

Chipper is a great player who may get a batting title this year, but Brett and Mike Schmidt were two third baseman ahead of anyone else.

  2. Lets get serious here.

George Brett is already in Cooperstown, until Chipper is there, this is the only possible answer that you should be getting.

  3. It's George Brett and it's not close. Maybe looking at their stats side by side makes it seem closer than it should. If you look at their numbers compared to their peers, the gap between the two becomes obvious. Chipper Jones is a great player, sometime all-star. Brett was one of the three or four top offensive producers of his generation.

  4. George Brett was a great player, not saying Chipper isn't but Brett is a HOFer & he is the better of the 2 in my opinion

  5. George Brett was a better hitter batting wise, but power wise that goes to Chipper Jones. Chipper also being a switch hitter made him that much more dangerous, as much s it pains me to say this but Chipper Jones has George Brett beat. Brett does have a world series ring and he had one gold glove. So, it's not like either Jones or Brett were known for their defensive abilities it was for their ability to hit. Brett's career average is at .305 and Jones is at .310. Jones has more homeruns and rbi's. Jones has a World Series ring and he's been to the World Series one more time than Brett did and played in less seasons then Brett did to get to those 3 world series. Post Season wise Jones has appeared in more games and has a .288 batting average where as Brett has played less games and batted .337.

  6. OK!! Mari,

George Brett is in my opinion, the second greatest 3rd baseman of all time.

The greatest , of course, is Mike Schmidt, or haven't you heard of him either.

Next time, don't show your ignorance.

Use a search engine and get clued in.

  7. George Brett, and it's not close. Chipper may be a future Hall-of-Famer himself, but Brett was one of the best all-around hitters of his era. His lifetime average was over .300 despite having sub-par (for him) years the last three or four years of his career.

  8. chipper bc i dont know who george brett is :)
