George Bush quote on his 2000 RNC speech: America being "caring, decent, and ready for change."...?

  1. He may have read this speech by one of his speech writers, but his actions after this were far from this. If I remember correctly, he seemed to alienate most of our international relationships we had under the previous presidency by stating that the US was going to focus on it's own needs, despite the needs of and relationships with other countries.

    Most politicians use the word "change" often, but I'm not certain what the speech writer was alluding to at that particular time. It was just political spin, in my estimate. The Republicans liked to hear it, I'm sure. But why change something that was working?

    I just looked at the speech. He said:

    "For eight years the Clinton-Gore administration has coasted through prosperity. The path of least resistance is always downhill. But America's way is the rising road. This nation is daring and decent and ready for change. "

    We got change after 8 years, but I don't think any of his change was good. (Supreme Court, environment, war, etc.). In retrospect, the Clinton-Gore presidency wasn't the disaster his speech writer presented.
