George Coetzee sets course record, shoots 63 in the third round
The Swede Henrik Stenson might be on his way for his first victory on the European Tour, since 2007, but he is sure to have a tough time from George Coetzee.
Stenson is happy with the way things stand at the moment. Despite carding an average round, he is still in the lead.
“Overall I am happy. I am still in the same position, even though I have got George (Coetzee) breathing down my neck,” he expressed.
Meanwhile, South African, Coetzee shot a stunning score of 63 at the South African Open. His round of 63 on Saturday also set the course record at the Serengeti Golf Club.
26-year-old George is currently at 13-under and tied at the second position, along with another Swede player, Magnus Carlsson.
Both of them are only three strokes behind the leader, Stenson, and a decent round on Sunday by the duo will make things extremely interesting at the Serengeti Golf Club.
The Pretorian native had a very solid round. Although it was not a bogey free round, as he would have hoped for, nevertheless it surely did the trick for him.
"It's great to shoot a 63 and I'm very happy, but I have to forget about it as soon as possible," said the Pretoria native. I have got to go out tomorrow. If the wind pumps and they put the flags in ridiculous places then 63 is definitely not an option".
Coetzee was nine shots off the pace when he started his second round but now, after carding nine birdies and an eagle, there is only a three-shot gap between him and Stenson.
However, Coetzee must have been disappointed by the two bogeys that he carded on the two short holes, otherwise his round was superb.
“I felt I handled my bogeys a lot better than in the past. Before I would put pressure on myself to make birdie the next hole, but I just waited for my opportunities,” he said.
Former world number one, Martin Kaymer, is currently eight strokes behind the leader, as he is eight-under for the tournament after 54 holes.
On the other hand, 2011 Masters Champion, Charl Schwartzel had a disappointing day. He carded a poor round of 74.
