George Coetzee stumbles on bogeys to lose his lead in Alfred Dunhill Championship: Live leaderboard
While Swede Daniel Chopra has surged to the top through the half way mark of the Iskandar Johor Open in Malaysia, George Coetzee dropped precious points in a matter of two holes to drop down the leaderboard at the Alfred Dunhill Championship in South Africa.
The latest European Tour event, which began at the wee hours on Thursday, November 17, at the scenic Leopard Creek Country Club in Malelane, saw a blistering run of birdies and a stunning eagle on the back nine, on the second day which jolted Coetzee to the
top of the leaderboard. He later succumbed to two consecutive bogeys to drop behind the leader.
Coetzee, the only player in the event who features in the top-100 in the Official World Golf Rankings (OWGR), has been desperately searching for his maiden European Tour win for quite some time. The 25-year-old South African is hoping to claim the title
at his home turf rather than battle alien course on the European and English turf.
Chilean Felipe Aguilar has now claimed the lead through the halfway mark of the event, scoring an impressive round of eight-under, 64. His birdie spree on the second day included eight birdies and did not drop a single shot in the 18-hole stretch. Home favourite
Jbe Kruger, although has just tee-ed off for the second round, has already thrown himself in contention for the lead with a tantalizing one-under so far. His overnight score of eight-under, 64 has done well to put him in contention.
Starting off the day with an eagle on the second hole, Kruger dropped two shots on the next holes to lose his lead. He came back with a birdie on the sixth and is now heading to the tee box for the seventh hole.
Three players are tied for the third position including George Murray, Jaco Van Zyl and Seve Benson with their scores of eight-under on the aggregate. Murray and Benson have still to complete the remaining holes of the second round. Kruger and Benson shared
the overnight lead with their rounds of 64 but have fallen down the leaderboard.
Most of the top ranking South African players are currently engaged in the President’s Cup at Royal Melbourne GC including Ernie Els and Charl Schwartzel.
