Ireland’s U-19 skipper George Dockrell on Wednesday expressed satisfaction over his performance so far in the ongoing Under-19 Cricket World Cup, underway in http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746, since August 11, 2012.
The 20-year-old Dublin-born spinner picked up four wickets to help his side script their first win of the tournament by defeating http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Nepal-c2965 by 14 runs in their final Group A match at Endeavour Park, Townsville, on Wednesday. He was also
adjudged as the man of the match for his startling figures of 4 for 22, in a ten-over spell, which also included three maidens.
Speaking to media after the 14-run win, the left-arm off-spinner said that keeping economy under check has been his mantra of success in the youth extravaganza so far.
"It's great to be getting four wickets and helping out the team," said Dockrell at the post-match press conference. "My economy has been pretty good so far and that's what I try and work on, just keeping the economy down and the wickets
will come,” he added further.
Dockrell managed to pick only one wicket in the first two matches of the tournament, returning with figures of 10-3-22-0 and 10-6-10-1 against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/England-c56013 and Australia respectively. The off-spinner, who has an international experience
of 30 One Day Internationals and 17 T20 Internationals, said that finishing wicketless did not bother him as long as he was bowling tight spells.
“If I'm not getting the wickets I don't mind, as long as someone else is,” said the Irish skipper, who is currently leading his side’s bowling with five wickets from three matches, at a startling economy of 1.80.
"If it is just 10 overs for 10 runs, even if you are not making the damage you personally want, I think you have just got to be happy with that and know that that will put pressure on.”
With only one wicket from three games, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 finished the group stage at No. 3, and failed to qualify for the Super League quarterfinals, as the top two teams from each group qualify for it.
Dockrell was disappointed at failing the knock out stages, however he vowed to perform well in the Plate Competition quarterfinals. The Irish men will play their Plate quarterfinal against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Namibia-c2964 on August 20.
