George Dockrell hopes to continue his good form with Somerset – Cricket News Update
Following an outstanding start to the 2012 County season, the teenage sensation of Somerset, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/George-Dockrell-c59135 has set his sights on further success in the County Championship as well as the one-day tournament.
“It is great to be spinning the ball and getting wickets early in the season and hopefully as the pitches get more worn out, I will play an even bigger part later in the season,” read Dockrell's statement on ECB's official website.
The 19-year-old Dublin-born left-arm spinner is currently leading the wicket tally in the 2012 LV= County Championship Division One, having claimed 25 scalps in seven matches, at an impressive bowling average of just 22.56.
The teenage spinner was on Somerset’s roster last season as well but failed to make an impact due to a shoulder injury and the presence of high profile overseas players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Graham-Robert-Cowdrey-c60631 der Merwe. Overall, Dockrell played around seven games
last year and is hopeful of playing a complete 2012 season with Somerset.
“I played around seven games altogether including the Champions League, but this year I have played every game so far and it’s been great being out there,” said the 19-year old Orthodox spin bowler.
“It has been really brilliant to make a contribution. Taunton pitches have done a bit on the final day and have done a lot for me, especially to left-handers,” he added further.
In http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Durham-c782 at Taunton last week, the teenager claimed startling figures of 6 for 29 to dismiss the opposition for only 167 and help the side script a five-wicket win over the tourists. This was Dockrell’s second six-wicket haul
this season; he had claimed figures of 6 for 27 in the season opener against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Middlesex-c817 last month.
Dockrell, who plays for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ireland-c751 at the international level, has so far played 28 One Day Internationals and 15 T20 Internationals claiming 35 and 24 wickets in each format respectively. To date, the Irish spinner has played 16 first class matches and has
55 wickets in his bag at an impressive average of 22.81.
