George Ford might come in for injured Toby Flood – Rugby News Update
The 26-year-old mercurial Leicester Tiger’s player, Toby Flood, has been named in the match day squad to play the Saracens in the semi-finals of the Aviva Premiership, even though he is still recovering from an injury.
Both the teams are vying for a spot in the final for the third successive time, although Leicester would be hoping for revenge when they were at the receiving end of a 50-25 mauling at the hands of the Saracens in September last year.
Geordan Murphy, the Leicester player who was on World Cup duty at the time clearly remembers the day, and could not believe the score when the news started pouring in.
“I was in New Zealand at the time and was checking the results on the internet," Leicester skipper Geordan Murphy said. "I remember being surprised that Sarries had put that many points on us.”
Speaking about the match ahead, he said that it is time that they take revenge of the result, and put the Saracens to task.
He said, "They were pretty pleased with it, so we have to use that as motivation to go out and have a good game on Saturday. I am sure all of the boys will remember that. We were missing 12 guys at the World Cup, but it showed what sort of a side Saracens
are. If we don't perform, we will be in trouble."
However, Toby Flood who has been capped 47 times for England has a 50:50 chance of starting the game, and in his place they have put the youngster George Ford on high alert. Ford can be drafted in last minute in case Flood cannot play at all. Flood sustained
the injury in the last league match of the season against Bath.
Ford will be a good replacement, even though he has missed out to Billy Twelvetrees for the match day squad. The son of a former England defence coach Mike Ford, the younger Ford is the current international Rugby Board Junior Player of the Year.
The stakes are high for this match and both teams will not want to leave anything to chance.
