George Foreman admires Bernard Hopkins on breaking his record – Boxing news
Former American two-time World Heavyweight Boxing Champion and Olympic gold medallist, George Foreman, has admired Bernard Hopkins on breaking his 17-year old record, when he became the oldest man ever to become heavyweight boxing champion at the age of
45 after knocking out Michael Moorer.
He commented on Hopkins fight in which the Executioner defeated Canada’s Jean Pascal to make a new record of becoming the oldest man ever to be a heavyweight boxing world champion at the age of 46.
He said, “I was on the edge of my seat every round. It was such an exciting fight. Bernard was the better athlete, the smarter fighter and was in the better condition. Now that a 46 [year-old] has done it, next a 47[year-old], a 48[year-old], a 49[year-old]
and a 50 [year-old] will do it, and if somebody does it at 60, then I’ll have to get back in there.”
Foreman, who has been named as one of the 25 greatest fighters of all time by ‘Ring magazine’, also appreciated Hopkins’ physical fitness. While speaking on his inclusion, he said, “Look, Hopkins did push-ups. What great conditioning, and he did it in Pascal
hometown. Isn’t that something? He was just so much better. I’m happy for Hopkins and I’m happy for mature athletes.”
The American legendary boxer, Foreman, who won 76 fights with 68 knockouts, remarked Hopkins’ fight was the best he has ever seen, as he was pretty impressed by the way the 46-year-old took control over his strong young opponent.
Bernard Hopkins also responded by thanking everyone for enjoying history. He stated after his fight that he already had told everyone that he has saved his best for the last to give a blockbuster performance.
Hopkins, who has now extended his winning record to 52 fights, admitted this was one of the top two best moments he has ever had in his life. He said beating Felix Trinidad was the first one and now making a new world record is another great achievement.
