George Groves: Signing a three-year contract with Frank Warren will not bother me – Boxing news
The former amateur champion and the reigning British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion, George Groves’, reckons working under his bitter rival James DeGale’s promotional banner will not be a problem for him.
The 23-year-old, Groves, has shocked the British boxing by signing a three-year contract with Frank Warren and will practice under the gym in which DeGale practises.
The Saint, Groves recently outpointed the Chunky, James DeGale, on a majority decision in their grudge match and a definite classic at the Wembley’s O2 Arena in London. DeGale immediately demanded a rematch, as he believed he was robbed and now when Groves,
by signing this deal, has made the prospect of their rematch almost unavoidable.
However, many think maybe the rivalry between Groves and DeGale would now end up and there will not be any rematch.
The Hammersmith’s pugilist, Groves, spoke to the media about his new agreement and made it clear that there will be no friendship between the two. Groves stated nothing will change as he will still be training with Adam Booth.
Moreover, Groves’ assumes he and DeGale will now collide with each other more than they used to.
“Nothing will really change for me personally,” he said. “I'm still training in the same gym with Adam Booth. James is doing his own thing, he's on his own path and needs to go away and look after himself. We'll probably bump into each other more than we
used to and more than maybe we'd like, but that's fine by me. I'll just try not to gloat!”
In the end the undefeated prospect Groves, who has won all of his 13 professional fights, with 10 of his wins coming by the way of a knockout, insisted he just wants to improve and sharpen his boxing skills and does not have to do anything else.
Groves said, “I'm still only 23, I've only had 13 fights and I want to improve and develop.”
