George Groves back in action, ready to exchange blows with Francisco Sierra – Boxing Special
George Groves, the current BBBC British and Commonwealth (British Empire) super middleweight champion, is finally on his way to make a comeback after nine-months. The young Briton will take on Francisco Sierra, the former WBO NABO super middleweight champion.
Despite all those injuries and bad times that have kept the British prospect out of the ring for a pretty long period, Groves is confident that he has invigorated his skills and the boxing fans will now witness a revamped, innovated and more talented pugilist
in Groves.
George went out of the ring after a successful title defence bout against Paul Smith. The bout, held in November 2011, was a masterpiece and stunned the whole world with its outcome.
Groves literally proved that he is the best super middleweight and can beat the ace divisional men in his country. Unfortunately, the hike towards the top was halted by the back injury.
Britain’s third best super middleweight was under severe bad spell and despite strenuous efforts was unable to recuperate. Groves was scheduled twice to take on opponents Kenny Anderson and Robert Stieglitz respectively but every time he decided to enter
the ring the injury came in his way creating sheer frustration.
This time Groves has confirmed that he is ready and will definitely enter the ring for two consecutive bouts with just six week gap in between.
George confirmed, “I haven't been as active as I want to be, but now I have this fight and a 12-round championship fight coming up. I had quite a bit of time out after beating [James] DeGale [in May 2011] before returning [six months later] to take out Paul
Smith in two rounds.”
During the interview, the Brit revealed that he will shock the boxing universe especially his fans by his new form and above all brawling style. The 24-year-old stated, “You'll see a new side to me, more boxing and a much more fluid style than you've seen
me put together in past fights. I've now had three training camps going into this fight. I've made the improvements in the gym but just haven't been given the chance to show it in a fight.”
Although George seems to be too confident regarding his form there are certain aspects that are being raised by the critics every now and then. One of those stinging concerns is whether Groves is immune to ring rust or not.
Well, George has thumbed down all such concerns by confirming that he does not have anything to worry about the ring rust stuff but still there are some naysayers who are consistently dubbing the ‘ring rust’ factor as the decisive one.
A bird’s eye view clearly shows that Groves will have no problem at all in taking on Francisco. Groves has already experienced a six-month gap (before Paul Smith bout). The gap did not create any difficulties for the Brit who proved his supreme form by knocking
Paul out in just the second round.
Furthermore, Francisco will be unable to put forth a tough resistance as he has recently made a comeback on the win track after collecting two consecutive losses against top ranked Thomas Oosthuizen and Jesus Gonzales.
The Mexican Panchito’s current win is also against a rookie opponent Rogelio Ruvalcaba. All these factors highlight just one fact that George will enter the ring with titles round his waist and will defend them successfully against Sierra.
Moreover, George is hungry to put his fists and body in action therefore Sierra will most probably serve as a punching bag and will succumb to the young lad’s impressive pugilism.
