George Groves optimistic about fighting the likes of Carl Froch, Andre Ward soon – Boxing news
The Saint, George Groves, believes it is only a matter of time before people will see him fighting with the likes of the two-time and reigning World Boxing Council’s Super Middleweight champion, Carl Froch or the current World Boxing Association’s World
Super Middleweight champion, Andre Ward.
The former amateur champion and the reigning British and Commonwealth super middleweight champion, Groves, is currently aiming to clean up the European level but he reckons by early 2013 people will see him challenging Froch or Ward for the world titles.
“I am on top of the pile and Adam reckons it is 18 months before I am fighting the top men like Carl Froch and Andre Ward,” he said.
Carl Froch and Andre Ward, who are set to take on each other in the ‘Winner takes all’ final of the Super Six Classics Tournament on October 29, 2011 in Atlantic City, are considered as the best middleweight contenders in the world. Therefore, Groves wants
to be at their level.
Groves remarked, “Froch and Ward are where I want to be. In the meantime, I have British and Commonwealth titles to defend and a world ranking to work on.”
In the end, the undefeated pugilist from Hammersmith, Groves, who has won all of his 13 professional fights, with 10 of his fights coming by the way of a knockout, claimed people want to see him taking on Nottingham’s Cobra, Carl Froch.
While speaking on his inclusion, he stated, “There are plenty of fights to keep me busy before then and people are already getting excited about a fight between Carl and myself.”
The winner of the mega showdown between Carl Froch and Andre Ward will possibly face Dr. Ironfist, Vitali Klitschko, for his title defence. However let’s see if Groves really climbs up the rankings to set up a promising fight with Froch or not.
