George Groves targets Carl Froch after defeating James DeGale – Boxing news
George Groves, who snatched the British and Commonwealth super-middleweight titles from James DeGale after a tight decision last Saturday, is now looking for a world crown.
DeGale’s promoter, Frank Warren, desperately wants a rematch but Groves has said his ambition is to become a world champion and for this, he is aiming to have a bout with Carl Froch.
Froch, who is currently practising for his Super Six tournament semi-final match against Glen Johnson on June 4, 2011, will once again put his World Boxing Championship belt on the line, provided he goes through to the final.
“Carl Froch came out recently and he said after he's finished with the Super Six, he'll happily fight the winner of us two,” Groves said. “So that could be a big fight for the British public in 18 months' time.”
Groves also commented on Warren’s decision, according to which DeGale won the fight. He said, “I've beaten him twice now. He said the first one [at amateur level] didn't mean anything and that it was all about this fight, but I schooled him again. The scorecards
were tight, but I only let him in at the end. Frank Warren is deluded.”
The Saint, Groves, also added he is now moving towards bigger things. He remarked he is a better fighter than DeGale, as he has two titles with him whereas DeGale is still looking for one.
The 23-year-old, Groves, who had more cuts on his face at the end of the bout, stated his game plan was to go in the ring and outbox DeGale. He claimed he knew DeGale was going to go out of ideas soon and that is exactly what happened.
The Londoner, Groves, in the meanwhile told the media that none of his cuts were given by DeGale. He said every one of his cuts was due to a clash of heads.
Let’s see if he gets a match against the Nottingham based Carl Froch, as it is going to be a very promising fight between both pugilists.
