George Groves to crack America
George Groves is set to wow an American audience with his first appearance in the states against second tier Mexican fighter Alfredo Contreras.
This is Groves “welcome to America” introduction, an easy enough fight for the fast-fisted Londoner to put on a bit of a show. It seems strange Adam Booth’s protégé has gone to America when he is still building his reputation in this country, he clearly has one eye on the future and wants to assert himself across the pond sooner rather than later.
With a fine amateur career and an impressive record of nine undefeated wins and seven knockouts he has proved himself a real prospect as super-middleweight.
Groves has a long-standing rivalry since his amateur days with Olympic hero James De Gale and every fight they have builds closer and closer to a high-stakes showdown between the duo. The sooner they get established the more likely this fight is to happen.
Tomorrow night Groves will have WBA heavyweight champion David Haye in his corner, but he will need little help dispatching Contreras and this fight shouldn’t go past three rounds.
