George Groves wants to fight Carl Froch – Boxing News
George Groves, the current British and Commonwealth super-middleweight champion, wants to fight Briton fighter Carl Froch. Right after Carl got his tremendous title win over Lucian Bute, Groves expressed his wish of facing Froch. Froch is currently the new
IBF title holder, and this might be the ultimate opportunity for both the fighters to unify the title.
When asked, Groves said, “I’d love to fight him. I’m on the verge of world title level. I had a chance to fight for the WBO title but it fell through. I’m trying to squeeze my way into the world title arena and obviously a fight against Carl in Britain would
be absolutely huge. As a fighter, you have to think you can beat anyone. Carl’s performance was great but you have to look at every fighter and think you can beat them.”
Groves has defeated Paul Smith and James DeGale is currently scheduled for a rematch against Kenny Anderson on June 30. If he goes for a title match against Froch, it might be scheduled for late fall this year or starting next year.
Froch defeated Bute past Saturday night via fifth round TKO victory. According to Froch, by the third round Bute was done and he had no fighting spirit left in it. He added, “I came in more determined than ever before. I felt like a million dollars. I came
here to do a job. I was so focused. I was on it tonight. A lot of people wrote me off, a lot of the boxing magazines. They're rewriting the script. The bookies got it wrong, too.”
For now, Froch is celebrating with his friends and family and has not yet spoken about his next match. However, he did express that he wants to unify the titles and he would opt for a match with another titleholder soon. Froch believes that Bute is done
with his career and he might no longer fight. However, the Briton has expressed that he is ready for a rematch against Bute. Froch believes that Bute will not opt for a rematch since he is no longer in the shape.
