George Groves:That David Haye loss November 13 would be catastrophic
Commonwealth super middleweight champion George Groves (10-0, 8 KOs) thinks it would be apocalyptic for boxing should Audley Harrison defeat WBA heavyweight titlist David Haye on November 13.
In an exclusive article written for The Sun, Groves, ever the active online personality, said: “A loss to Audley at this stage of his [David’s] career would be catastrophic, especially when you consider how many better fighters David has beaten in the past.
David has already competed at a much better level than this, has won world titles abroad and beaten legitimate champions. He can't then go and lose to someone like Audley.”
The article comes just days after Groves signed with Boxing News to write an online journal outlining his training procedures and life as Commonwealth champion.
Groves and Haye, close since they two train at the same boxing gym, are cordial friends. As well, Haye is Groves's representational voice and boss, since Groves is promoted by Hayemaker Promotions (run by Haye).
Himself a loud voice in the boxing world, “The Hayemaker” will be the favourite going in with Harrison, whom most say “has a puncher’s chance.”
In boxing talk, that means little to no chance at all.
Groves added that “having seen him [David] close at hand, I can assure everybody he's looking in top shape and is better than ever right now. I've spent a lot of time around David in the gym in recent years and I've never seen him looking better than he
does at the moment.”
Accurate testimony, or the kind of thing you’d expect from a guy who wouldn’t dare say anything bad about the guy giving him his paychecks?
Groves will be stepping into the ring on October 30 against challenger James Obede Toney at the York Hall in London. In a demonstration of Groves’s wide-sweeping popularity, the card is already sold out and expects to offer a sensational night of fights.
