Indiana Pacers General Manager Kevin Pritchard delivers on half of his promise by bringing back George Hill
According to sources close to the situation, Indiana Pacers have successfully retained their point guard George Hill by agreeing to a five year deal with the player and his representatives.
The prospect of returning back to the team was welcomed by Hill, who has reportedly been enjoying his vacations in Virgin Islands.
"We're very happy with the deal we were able to agree to," Bill Neff (Hill`s agent), said. "George is very happy to be returning to Indiana."
The financial terms of the contract have not been made public as of yet. The official announcement from the team is still pending and will only come when Hill signs the contract officially on July 11th after NBA`s moratorium
period is over.
Hill joined Indiana on last year's draft night after being traded by the San Antonio Spurs. Initially, he was expected to be a reserve one guard, but quickly broke through the Pacers ranks as a starter after Darren Collison went
out with injury.
He made immediate impact as a starter with the Pacers and helped them win seven consecutive games, with Hill holding an average of 15.4 points and 5.4 assists during that span.
Even though Collison made a successful return from injury but given the level of performances Hill was putting up, Pacers coach Frank Vogel decided to keep him a starter for the rest of the season and gave Darren the bench role.
Ever since becoming a starter for Indiana, the numbers from Hill saw a significant rise and he was able to live up to his billing till the very end of the season, averaging 13.9 points and 5.3 assists.
Pacers new general manager, Kevin Pritchard made his intentions clear last week to bring back Hill along with Roy Hibbert from last season and he seems to be working around the clock to deliver on his promise.
"You want to keep the same guys because for whatever reason they learn each other better. You look at the elite teams who have had success, they stay together with small changes.” -Pritchard said last week.
However, Pacers have to resolve the future of Roy Hibbert in the coming days who has been offered a deal worth $58 million for four years and Indiana only has two days left to matchup the Portland Trail Blazers offer.
