George McNeill aims to carry his winning momentum into the Transitions Championship – Golf News
George McNeill, who won the Puerto Rico Open, last week, is set to make another good start on the PGA tour, as he drives to Innisbrook to participate in the Transitions Championship scheduled to start from March 15, 2012.
It was his second win of the six-year professional career. However, McNeill believes that he needs to focus on the events to come, as every event is different and brings new challenges for the players.
Therefore, he must be focused and consistent in his performance to astound his opponents again and register another good finish in the event.
“You’re out there to do a job. That’s what you’re doing. You’re doing a job,” McNeill said. “This is a new week, and we’ll tee it up in Tampa and see what happens”.
While playing the last holes at the Trump International Golf Club last Sunday, McNeill admitted that he was nervous to hit the shots.
It had been more than five years since his first victory came in his rookie year, the Frys.com Open victory in 2007. Following his first win, he finished second six times in his career.
Therefore, it was a pressure moment for him as the Japanese golfing sensation, Ryo Ishikawa had a late charge in the event to challenge him on the leaderboard.
At one time, they tied for the first position on 14-under after he shot a spectacular 25-foot putt on the 16th hole.
On the par-four 17th hole, he again astounded his opponent with a spectacular birdie to take one stroke lead over Ishikawa.
“You’re trying not to let your emotions get the best of you in that situation,” said McNeill. “Emotionally I was fine”.
On the final hole, he was standing just four feet away from the finish. At that time, he had two strokes left to register his second win of the career.
“I can two-putt this?” McNeill asked his caddie for confirmation. “I’m going to try to make this obviously, but it’s not going to be going very fast”.
According to McNeill, the only thing that earned him an easy win in the end was his control over his emotions.
Currently, he is looking towards the Transitions Championship where his best finish came as a runner-up in 2008.
Therefore, he now aims to improving his record in the event with one thing carrying forward from the Puerto Rico Open, which is momentum.
