George Murray relishes return to Scottish Hydro Challenge – Golf news
George Murray of Scotland is relishing the opportunity to return to the same venue where he secured his maiden European Challenge Tour title, as he is set to be featured in this week’s Scottish Hydro Challenge hosted by Macdonald Hotels and Resorts.
The tournament will be staged at the Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club, a venue that saw Murray securing a four-stroke victory over Sweden’s Magnus A Carlsson, in 2010.
In addition to the memories of his victory, he also relishes the chance of returning to the picturesque town of Aviemore, where he proposed his wife Carrie in 2009.
“I played great that week in 2010, probably the best I've ever played,” said Murray. “It was great to win up there. It was my first win as a professional too so it was excellent. I led from the first day and afterwards I moved to third in the Rankings, and
I kept playing solidly that year and got my European Tour card.”
“I love it up there. I go up a lot with my family and got engaged up there. We went for a nice little walk out to a loch – the most nerve-wracking walk of my life!” he added.
Murray enjoyed a good start to his 2013 season campaign, as he finished tied for the 12th position in the Challenge Tour opener in India, followed by a strong third place finish at the Barclays Kenya Open.
However, the Scotsman failed to keep the momentum going into the rest of the starts he made and also suffered a rib injury while he was travelling to Madeira last month.
Talking to the reporters ahead of his start at the Macdonald Spey Valley Golf Club, he said that the ribs’ condition was quite better, before the start of last week’s Najeti Hotels et Golfs Open presented by Neuflize OBC.
However, lack of practice did not allow him to play shots freely and he missed the cut at the Aa St Omer Golf Club.
He now believes that the injury will be healed soon and he will be back on track in the upcoming events.
