George O’Grady to head the WGF in 2011
George O’Grady has recently been named the chairman of the World Golf Foundation’s (WGF) Board of Directors for the year 2011.
According to reports, O’Grady will be taking over the WGF’s leading position in 2011 to lead the organisation as the Chairman of the board of directors. The chairman had previously been heading the bench as the chief executive
officer of The European Tour.
Sources say that the chairman has succeeded Joe Steranka from the Professional Golf Association (PGA). Steranka is the Chief Executive Officer of the PGA, and has the record of serving the organisation as the Board Chairman
in 2010.
As for O’Grady, he held the position of the chief executive officer for the European Tour since 2005, after which he joined the WFG in 2006. The inclusion was initiated after the board opted to include various CEO’s of golf’s
leading organisations from around the globe.
Along with the earlier decision, it was also decided that the position of Board Chairman would rotate between the board affiliates of the organisation.
According to the Chairman, he has never been more humbled.
“I feel honoured, as of now I will be heading all 2011 efforts of the WGF” said O’Grady.
He added that the organisation aims to develop and create various global initiatives, which aspire to promote golf across the world. The chairman said that he felt honoured to be working for the greater good of the sport with
the WGF.
“I look forward in helping the organisation for its 2011 ventures” said O’Grady.
The WGF's Chief Executive Officer, Steve Mona is impressed by O’Grady’s unique perspective. He said that the new chairman would bring in a global viewpoint, which is necessary for the sport at this point in time. Mona pointed
out that nowadays golf is spreading out to many parts of the world, and that is why a universal vision is required. Mona said, “The organisation would benefit a lot with the visionary leader.”
With O’Grady and Steranka leading the WGF, the board also includes the likes of Jim Armstrong, Mike Butz, Peter Dawson, Tim Finchem, Michael Whan and Jesse Saldivar.
