George Springer moves to Triple-A ball in the Houston Astros Minor League System – MLB news
Nothing is better than a success story of a young baseball player who works his way through the Minors Leagues to achieve greater heights at the highest level of the game.
It seems that we may witness one such success story soon in form of George Springer, the outfielder in the Astros’ Minor Leagues. He is all set to Join the Triple-A affiliate of the Astros, the Oklahoma City Red Hawks.
George was drafted by the Astros in 2011 MLB’s Amateur Draft as their first round pick from the University of Connecticut at Storrs. He was the 11th pick overall in the draft. Springer started his professional career the same year and played in a handful
of games for the Tri-City Valley Hawks, a Short Season-A team in the Astros Minor League System.
He then played for the Lancaster Jet Hawks in the Class Advance-A team in the California League before being promoted to the Corpus Christi Hooks in the Texas League. The Hooks are the Double-A affiliates of the Houston Astros.
Springer has been in great form in 2013 and has posted .299 batting average and a .402 on-base percentage. With 80 hits, 18 home-runs and 53 RBI’s, George certainly has been swinging rather well. He has also stolen 23 bases this season.
George’s overall record in the Minors is quite impressive and shows that he has the ability to make it to the big leagues. To date, he has .297 batting average and a .386 on-base percentage. He has made 932 plate appearances during his three seasons in the
Minors.
The 23-year-old is excited about the move and sees it as another opportunity to show his skills and earn his stripes further.
“I'm excited about it,” Springer said. “It's another opportunity and another chapter, and I'm looking forward to it.”
George knows that all he needs to do is to continue playing the same way that he has been playing it all season and just concentrate on hitting the ball. He knows that it is all he needs to get results.
“I've just got to continue with the same thing, keep hitting the ball hard and string together good, quality at-bats and results will happen,” Springer said. “Don't press. Go out and play.”
Houston Astros will certainly be keeping his progress in check and will be looking forward to adding to their ranks sometime in future if he can prove that he belongs with the big boys.
