George Vancouver beats the American rivals in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf
The two-year-old, George Vancouver, gifted his trainer, Aidan O’Brien, with just what he had wished to achieve since the last year, a Breeders’ Cup win. The American colt bred by, Capital Bloodstock, downed the Grade IT Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf on 3rd
November at Santa Anita over a mile. The race proved to be the first graded success for the colt.
The field of eleven wonderful juveniles had four incredible European racing sensations, while the winner, George Vancouver, was sired by the 2008 runner-up of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, Henrythenavigator. The success became a fourth time that the Juvenile
Turf title got won by a European entry.
Falling into an easy lead due to the high pace was, Summit County, he maintained the monopoly for over half the track distance and had at the heels, Gervinho and I’m Boundtoscore.
Giving the time to the pace setter just until the second turn, the two in close pursuit of the field took over, and raced almost nose to nose.
In the meanwhile, the eventual winner, George Vancouver, under the spectacular rider, Ryan Moore, had covered considerable ground through the early going, and started navigating the traffic tactfully at the top of the stretch. Racing in the mid-stretch presented
a modest challenge from the Juddmonte Farms’ entry that did not take long to overcome.
The Roger Charlton trained, Dundonnell, ended fourth with jockey, James Doyle, onboard.
The winner concluded the trip in 1:33.78 seconds by 1 ¼ lengths from the runner-up, Noble Tune, as Balance The Books ended third.
"Ryan gave him a superior ride," said O'Brien. "(George Vancouver) has been crying out for fast ground all year."
"He traveled very well and quickened when he needed to," said Moore of the winner. "Everything worked out."
Owner Michael Tabor, of the Coolmore triumvirate, said: "He's been waiting for this fast ground, and that really was the key."Everything's possible next season now. He's obviously a top-class horse and hopefully he'll go for all the big races."
The race was a back-to-back success for the winning jockey, Ryan Moore, who won the Juvenile Turf with Wrote last year at Churchill Downs. Last year too, the rider ran for the same set of connections.
