Georges St-Pierre: I was getting hurt, it was painful but I had a lot of fun – UFC News
Following his unanimous decision win over interim champion Carlos Condit, UFC welterweight titlist Georges St-Pierre is back in form. Not only did GSP enjoy fighting Condit, he also felt it was the toughest fight of his career. However, after successfully
defending his title in his hometown Montreal, GSP is now sure that he is back in the game, and probably better than ever before.
“I was getting hurt, it was painful but I had a lot of fun. I love my job,” said St-Pierre after the fight. “The suffering, this feeling of not giving up.”
Although he looked superb, GSP did admit that he felt a little rusty in the initial rounds. He spoke about his knee that was injured, saying it is all good now but he needs to be in the cage more often to keep up the pace.
Although GSP won the fight with high scores 49-46, 50-45, 50-45, the fight was still a tough one for him and he was bruised badly. During the third round, Condit gave his best shot, striking the champion down with a left head kick. GSP managed to stand up
but his head was swollen. After the fight, ‘The Rush’ definitely looked hurt and bruised, and he did admit so.
“Before I put the ice on, my head had the shape of an American football,” said GSP. “That’s why I put some ice on. I hope it gets better with time.”
Not just GSP, even president of the Ultimate Fighting Championship Dana White was pleased with the French-Canadian’s performance in his comeback bout.
“It’s huge. Tonight was a big, big night as far as his legacy is concerned,” said Dana White of St-Pierre.
St-Pierre spoke of Condit, saying the interim champion gave him the toughest fight of his career. According to Condit, this fight was tougher than the one against Jon Fitch in 2008.
For now, St-Pierre is excited over his comeback. During round three, everyone felt for a while that their champion was down but GSP stood up soon enough, proving he still is the unstoppable force he once was.
